Bull’s Oracle Postgres Conversion Methodology

How do we do it? We are experienced in Oracle Postgres conversion, and we have developed a methodology that is intended to help both you and us to succeed.

How do we begin our engagement with you?

• We have an initial conversation to understand your needs and see if there is a possible fit.
• We analyze your database before Oracle conversion. This includes an Oracle migration questionnaire that you can either fill in and submit on-line, or that can be completed by working with our sales and support personnel.
• We send you an analysis tool to run and collect information about your Database. You send us back the report, which is in clear text form that you are welcome to read, and this helps us make a technically sound proposal.
• We provide you with a detailed Statement of Work, a firm fixed price quote, and a schedule. (We may have more conversations with you, as required.)

After we agree to a contract

• We design and develop your new PostgreSQL database, with your involvement, and populate it with test data - usually from an unload of your current test data. We do this on servers at our facility.
• We identify any changes needed in Application code. Usually there are few, due to PostgreSQL support of standard SQL.
• When performing an Oracle Postgres conversion we convert other features as well, such as triggers and Stored Procedures. We have the best tools going for Oracle conversion. This separates us from the pack.
• We make performance improvements, if needed, particularly if your applications were tuned to use your previous database.
• We go through a basic unit test of the new PostgreSQL database, access, and basic SQL statements.
• We run through Acceptance Testing on an agreed percentage of your programs.
• If you choose, we give you remote access to your new PostgreSQL Database on our server for your own testing, which avoids any interference with your existing Database and your Production Processing.
• We ship your new database and applications to your site and support your final testing and deployment for an agreed time. This includes unload/load tools that need Oracle Postgres conversion for your data from your current Database to PostgreSQL, including our highly efficient PostgreSQL load tools.

After Your Oracle Postgres Conversion is complete

• Once in production you can choose to take over your own support, which is possible with an Open Source Database like PostgreSQL, or you can contract with Bull or others for a Support Subscription.
• We also offer other services to support you on PostgreSQL. Bull is ready to be your partner and help you succeed with PostgreSQL going forward.
• Through the entire engagement you will work with our sales and technical staff to make sure we understand your needs and to keep you aware and involved as we proceed.
