Ken Rosensteel presented Bull's PL/SQL-to-PL/pgSQL tool at PGEast last year. Now a free public demonstration version of this tool is available. The demo tool provides a wide range of translation possibilities (but not the full tool capabilities). The user just pastes in the PL/SQL Stored Procedure text itself for a quick translation, and then the user can evaluate the results.

You are welcome to try out the free demo tool at, and we request your feedback. You can use the demo tool for 30 days, with a limit of 2000 lines of PL/SQL Stored Procedures.

on September 21, 2006 hmm only very specific PHP configurations support the usage yet. that's a shame. It's definitely interesting to see this development. A cheaper (== free in this case) alternative to Oracle would be nice. Then again, Oracle has built a name over years and years of good work. This one really has to prove itself before it will actually get Oracle's enterprise market share.

Having a tool translate PL/SQL to PL/pgSQL is an interesting approach, and a good one. However, this post is light on details. Are your PGEast slides available for download? Are there any limitations for the tool? Is it going to be a commercial product? Thanks.

For more detail you can go to the white paper section on the page and we've described some of the more unique translations in those white papers. Also the PGEast slides are also there. There are some limitations for the Demo tool but otherwise we attempt to do all translations, in some cases we need more than just the Stored Procedure to do the translation. The tool is used as part of our professional migration Services, and we're always open to working with partners that may just need the Stored Procedure translations.
